Uniting Services to Serve One Cause
Giving is way down in the same year that record numbers of people are seeking shelter and meals. People who were once secure and moving with direction have lost jobs, homes, and health care and their compass.Providence Ministries is planning an event called “Night in a Box” designed to raise awareness and funds for services that provide housing, shelter, homeless prevention, medical, mental health and substance abuse services, education, training, and employment opportunities. We are partnering with the Denver Road Home & the Denver Rescue Mission.
On December 4th 2009, people will meet 2 blocks from Coors Field to simulate homelessness by spending a night in a box, rich and poor, with one common goal – to raise funds and awareness for the plight of the poor in Denver.
Denver’s Road Home states that “ending homelessness is not only the right thing to do, it is the fiscally responsible thing to do. It costs our community $15,000 to move a chronically homeless person into housing and treatment, but can cost up to $40,000 when a homeless person stays on the street and seeks out the emergency room and other services.
Organizations such as Denver’s Road Home, Denver Rescue Mission and Providence Ministries have made great strides toward serving the poor in Denver, but we have much more work to do.
You may now play a huge part by partnering with us and sponsoring a “Night in a Box” and help us provide mentoring for the poor and homes to those in need.
The MissionNight In A Box is an outreach of Providence Ministries, a not for profit organization in Denver, Colorado. Our mission is to serve the poor in our city. Our purpose for “Night in a Box” is:
