A Fundraising Outreach of Providence Ministries
The Mission
Night In A Box is an outreach of Providence Ministries, a faith-based non-profit in Denver, Colorado. Our mission is to serve the poor in our city with the love of Jesus Christ.
The Need
To accomplish our mission, we are in need of resources. It is our desire to raise $100,000 to help further the mission. The funds raised will be used as follows:
- 1/3 of the funds will be used to remodel our non-profit facility in the heart of one of Denver's neediest communities. The building will be used for after-school programs, drug and alcohol counseling, employment assistance, and other community services.
- 1/3 of the funds will be used for operational costs in 2010 including staff and programs.
- 1/3 of the funds will be used for direct services to the poor. It will be distributed as follows:
- 1/3 will be given to the Denver Road Home Seniors and Families Homeless Initiative.
- 1/3 will be given to Champa House, a ministry of Denver Rescue Mission.
- 1/3 will be used for the people that are served through Providence Ministries.
The Event
On the evening of December 4, 2009, people around the country will meet to simulate homelessness by spending an entire night in a box out in the cold in their cities. A major site will be set up in Denver, Colorado, the home of Providence Ministries; however, people around the nation are encouraged to participate. Providence seeks to facilitate an event for people to come together as a community of people, rich and poor, for one night with one common goal.
The event in Denver will be organized so that everyone will be sleeping in the same general location with proper security and bathroom facilities throughout the night. We will come and experience some of the difficulties of those whom we seek to serve in order to better engage and understand their needs. Everyone will have the opportunity to
- be a “Champion” and spend a night in a box with us
- be a “Supporter” and donate or pledge toward one or more Champions or
- be a “Connector” who raises up other Champions who will in turn give a night of their life for the poor and homeless.
Activities for the evening will include prayer vigils, testimonials, a food drive, live music, and interaction with homeless friends.
The Purpose
- To raise awareness of the plight of the poor
- To raise funds for ministries that help the poor
- To change the lives of people who will experience what it is like to be poor and to advocate for the poor
